I've got the chance to buy a 31 spline traction lock with a 3.50 ratio. My old truck is 28 spline. Does anyone know what year they started putting 31 spline axles in F-100s? My Detroit Locker is going to find a home in my Stang. The 3.50 ratio would be better with the 3.75 first gear in my truck's 5-speed. The 4.11s are a little steep!------------------ Kevin 1996 SVT Cobra (#522) 1967 F100 w/85 Roller Cam 5.0, 5-Speed, 4.11 Detroit Locker, GT Mustang SEFI 1973 "Q" Code Mach1, 3/4 Vinyl Top, Fold-Down Rear Seat, A/C

Anyone with the answer? I am going to say 1973-74. That was about when the big blocks{460} came out.[This message has been edited by MLariviere (edited 01-02-2005).]

9" truck rear ends from 1957 through 1972 are the same width, I have heard that somewhere in the '67-'72 series the 31 spline axles showed up in the trucks. I took axles out of a '72 FE powered F-100 that were solid with two holes on the end that were 28 splines. My '78 (400/auto) F-150 has longer 31 spline axles that won't fit the '72 and older housings. Tracy

Yeah, i've never run across any 72 and older 31 splines. Might have been 390 with 4 speed and highest GVW only.
