Hey what is everyones opinion on the 1978 Ranchero GT with a 351M engine with 38000 miles on it. I bought it for $600 canadian. I think its a steal the interior is in decent shape and the body has no major rust the GT stripes need a re-doing(faded). the colour of the car is dark blue with silver gt stripes. 9 inch rear end (anyone know what the ratio would be by any chance). A shift kit installed (squeals every gear) and the GT rally rims. OPINIONS!

Sounds like a great deal. I like the 68 a lot more, but for $600 I would take it.

Yeah its not the greatest looking car lol .. but once I saw it I just got so attacted to it. I was surprised to find out it only weighs a measly 3180 lbs. I am going to pick it up on Saturday. Needs oil change, tranny fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid and new belts. Also a battery.

Are you sure it's only 3180#? I would guess more like 3780. The Torinos and Elites were 4000+ lbs.

Once you're hooked on them, there's no turning back.

Be careful of rust in the floor of the storage bay.

Not to be in-you-face,but my Torino is 5115#. Are you sure that isn't the rear GAWR? My rear GAWR is 2564#,2551# front. My car tips the scale at 3970#. Those Rancheros are the same platformas a Torino, essentially a wagon with most of the roof cut off. There can't be a 2000# difference.

The GVWR includes vehicle weight, passengers, and payload. Assuming 500# for passengers, and 750# payload,{may be more, not sure} your car would weigh 1930#.

Those Rancheros are cool IMHO. I would like to have one for a summer driver. I actually want one of every body style in 72,a wagon,4 door,Ranchero and a Sport Fastback. Then my wife would shoot me.

Here is a great Torino site, got lots of info on HP's, weights, and production numbers.

The only problem is that they're down at the moment...
