The problem is with my Lightning. It's a '93 (and from what I've heard, the 93's had the weakest trans of the bunch), it has 194k miles on the motor/trans and neither have ever been out. Th problem is this, when under a load, when the motor reaches right around 4k rpm in each gear, it develops a distinct vibration. It doesn't do it when sitting still and free reving it. It is not speed sensitive, only rpm. Also, when I pull one of the racecars, when I first take off, it has a very notice-able 'shudder' in second gear that gets worse with rpm. Once the motor/trans gets good and warmed up, the shudder goes away. What does everyone think? I'm afraid the convertor may finally be failing.

I'm no trans expert, but that sure sounds like a lockup convertor going south. Maybe you could try a fluid and filter change? I've seen it perform miracles.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

I was afraid of that.I normally change the trans fluid once a year in hopes of preventing any trans failures. Looks like it might be time to give that a shot again.

If I could ever get this GD CD drive to work, I could look up a troubleshooting tree in my CD shop manual! ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

My '91 was doing the shutter thing, there was some additive that helped but didn't fix completely, sorry I can't remember who made it but it came from a transmission shop. I almost want to say it was a mopar product. Won't help with the converter. That truck still has that shutter sometimes, did it when new and now at 165,000. I sold it to a friend for his son's first vehicle, they lowered it and put Lightning wheels on it, I relly miss that one.

That fluid you are thinking of is friction modifier, the best kind to get is REDLINE or FOMOCO. Yes I work on cars. Koons Ford of Annapolis.
