I found this note in a box of disc brake pads:

"Chevrolet or GMC trucks using 7024A or 7081A disc brakes may experience loose friction on the disc brake steel backing plate. This is caused by the caliper anchor plate spreading due to rough usage or overloaded capacity of the vehicle. This condition will cause irratic braking with the possibility of the disc brake friction material seperating from the steel backing plate."

Think of that the next time you have a GM truck tailgating you...
