I must have done something to PO the Red Truck!

I'm getting a "173" code (o2 sensor indicates a rich condition). I've changed the o2 sensor, spark plugs, air filter, and cleaned the throttle body... The problem is still there. Next I'll check out the fuel regulator and, possibly, the throttle position sensor.

Anybody got any insights or suggestions?

Any vacuum leaks? Sticky injector? Pull the plugs and see if you can narrow it down to a cylinder.

I've considered an injector problem, but all plugs looked identical (sooty, but not horrible) so I've kinda backed away from that...

Does it seem to be running well? Can you stall it with your hand?

Didn't Lightnings have a problem with the gasket between the upper and lower intake manifolds drying up and causing vacuum leaks?

It runs great (especially now with the new plugs and clean air-filter), except at an extended stop (red-light, etc.). It will drop idle RPM then surge to 1100, drop idle RPM then surge to 1100, etc. I've never heard of a gasket problem on old Lightnings, but I've also considered pulling the upper intake to clean it, and clean the throttle body better. Also it makes the fuel pressure regulator and throttle position sensor much easier to access. Oh yes, the check light is intermittent. It's on probably 30% of the time, usually at 35 to 50 MPH.

It was the fuel pressure regulator. For some reason the red truck didn't like running with 80+ pounds of fuel pressure at the injectors...

It was the regulator. Truck is MUCH happier with 35-40 pounds of fuel pressure.
