For a while my gas gauge would stick at full from 1/2 a tank to a full tank. Now it does the opposite. It now shows empty from 1/2 a tank to a full tank. Once I get past a half tank it will start to work. What is screwed up? How can I fix it?

I imagine it must be something to do with the sending unit.

Take the sending unit out and check it's action. It's probably binding at the hinge.
