Okay guys, my truck is getting weird, maybe you've seen this before.91 F-150 with 302 (155k miles) acts like it's running out of gas, the rear tank did it first, a month later the front tank is doing it, worse around 1500 rpm, idles fine, low on power, after initial start up will go 10 to 15 miles before acting up. Recent plugs, wires, cap, rotor and fuel filter. The fuel pumps are my guess but at $200 or more each (2) I was hoping for some "miracle" Have any of you had this before? Thanks. ------------------ Stuart MCA #48902 M&M #1091 67 stang 5 speed, 351W, Edelbrock Performer RPM package Currie 9 Inch 91 f-150 xlt 98 explorer xlt sohc v-6

Fairly sure it is the fuel pumps or the fuel pressure regulator. I had the same problem on my 92 several years ago. It was only on the rear pump though.About 6 months after that I had another similar problem and it turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. The internal spring would get hot and weak (the fpr is on the rear of the intake) and it was bypassing most of the fuel back to the tank when under high vac conditions When it was the pump it did it whenever I would speed up and it got worse with time. The fpr was noticable at part throttle, light load like when you would give it just enough gas to maintain speed up a hill, but not enough to make the trans downshift. Auto Zone has the pumps for $128 and the fpr for $22. How do the pumps sound. Loud? Normal? If the pumps are not overly loud I would try the fpr first due to the cost.

I bet Dave nailed it. You can also verify by doing a flow test on the pumps. There's also a recall for the switching valve you may want to ask a Ford dealership about: TSB Number Issue Date TSB Title 01M05 JUN 01 Recall - Fuel Cross-Flow Extended Coverage Free repairs are the best repairs. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1, '72 Mustang Sprint, '94 F-150 Pics MCA Member # 47773

The above TSB is an extension of this original TSB, I believe:93S68 SEP 93 Recall - Cross Tank Fuel Flow Condition ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1, '72 Mustang Sprint, '94 F-150 Pics MCA Member # 47773

Okay, pressure regulator helped a bunch, it still wants to surge a bit, around 1400 to 1800 rpm it can't make up it's mind if it wants to run or stall. Lower rpm and higher rpm it runs fine.Maybe the timing or vacumn advance? I'll be putting a light on it today to check them.
