Anyone know if the following is a direct swap, or if I need to shorten the rear? I'm parting out my 65 F100 Parts chaser, and want to put the Dana 44 with posi into my 55 F100. The 3.91 gears on the Spicer in the 55 are killing me on the freeway! That Dana would be soooo nice! Aside from moving the spring pads what else do I need to consider?

The spring pads from 1953-1972 are the same width and angle. This means that a 9" rear end from a 1957-1972 F-100 bolts right in to the 1953-1956 chassis. The 9" was introduced in 1957 and is the #1 choice for rear ends. The rear in your '55 should also be an early Dana 44. If your '65 is an automatic you probably have a 3.25 gear. ave you checked?

Thanks Tracy!

We did the Swap Sunday, and it went smoothly! I yanked the tag off the pumpkin, and the gears read 3.5:1 limited Slip. What a difference! Now, You mentioned other gears for a 65, someone may have changed the rear end once upon a time before we got the truck. It is currenntly an automatic, but when the previous owner did an engine swap, he swapped trannys also. It looks like it was a manual truck. Highway speeds are now attainable and bearable.

Next step is to put the 65's engine into my Mustang! (351C originally from a Torino Gt).

I love your website! It is a wonderful reference!
Thanks Again!
