I have a '78 ford pickup with a 351W. I have a Holley 4 barrel carb on it that is off a Ford van. (around 1980 vintage). My question is how do I hook up the electric choke so it works properly?

Just find a keyed wire. What are you having a problem with?

I was under the impression that the electric choke takes something less than 12V to operate? And I thought it typically tied into the field lead or something on the alternator.

Probably the easiest place to find a keyed accy wire is at the fuse block accy post. DO NOT go to the wire to the coil. You don't want to drain current there.
