I've started researching exhaust systems for my truck. I started an Excel sheet, and I'll be comparing many brands, such as Bassani, Borla, BBK, DynoMax, Edelbrock, Flowmaster, Gibson, Hooker, Pacesetter TFX, Summit, and whatever brand I come across.

I'm looking for: {in order of preference}
*Best Performance increase
*Best materials
*Best looking
*Best sound
*Best value for dollar

If you guys will find it helpful, I'll make a page with my results.

Please do, Steve! Could you also include flow characteristics and numbers for each muffler? I remember reading a post around here (I think Tim touched on the subject) that said Flowmasters didn't flow as well as other brands.

It got me wondering...

TIA,

Stewart

Ok, but it will be specific to my 5.8L truck.

The data should still be helpful.

I've seen the Gibson tips, and they look hokey. They are square tubes.

I think you are thinking of Borla. The Gibsons are round.

The guy that did my alignment last spring had a Gibson exhaust on his Dodge truck. They exited in front of the rear wheel and looked like two receiver hitches coming out.

Oh yeah! Those are called 'Super Truck' tips:
I wouldn't even consider those.

They also have 3" single tailpipes:

...and 2 1/2 duals:

I like the duals.

I would not recommend the Flowmaster. It lasted less than 3 years on my truck. First the after muffler portion rotted off, then a couple of months later, the back of the muffler decided to go, too. Now I have just a turbo muffler and locally done exhaust. Had it put on about 2 years ago, and it still looks like new.

One thing I'm finding out is that nobody is very generous with the performance results, everyone seems to sell the sound.
