The firing order depends on the model and engine variant in the car? Is it a 5.0L EFI or a 351W/5.8L Police Package?

A Crown Vic LX has a 5.0L EFI that is rated at 150 HP..a few with trailer towing packages and handling packages came with duel exhaust that bumped them up to 160HP like the standard 5.0L (Non-HO) Police Package.

Be advised the 5.0L Police Variant was not a 5.0L HO like the Mustangs plant with a 351W (5.8L) firing order incorporated.

A Crown Vic Police Package can come with either a 5.0L EFI rated at 160 or a 5.8L with a 7200VV Carb rated at a paltry 180HP.

The duel exhaust being standard on Police Packages is what is making up the difference between most LX's and Police 5.0L models.

Sorry for the history lesson...but your question cannot be answered directly or accurately without knowing exactly what variant of Crown Vic you are running?

The VIN Code for the LX model is P73 or P74 for the higher end car.

The VIN Code for Police Package variants and Fleet sale variants like Taxi Cabs is P72..the P71 VIN for the "Police Interceptor" package came into being in 1993 , 1 year after the re-styling of the entire product line of Vics and Grand Marquis in 1992

N266fords,

For deeper assistance with "Crown Victoria" questions and concerns...here are a couple of websites that deal with them in the various forums.

(1) www.crownvic.us
(2) www.crownvic.net

Both websites have been around for about 5 or so years..and if you can wade past some of the non-sense , you can find some really solid Technical Information in them.

Good Luck with your ride !!!

Its a 89 5.0 efI ltd crown vic 4 door 15426378 firing order is for sure. I bought this car for 300 and wanted something to drive while I rebuilt my sm block in my 66 mustang.
I bought also for the Aod cause I want to rebuild that. Anyone have name of a good video for the trans rebuild?
I want to know if its a roller but I will find out when I pull off and Swap intakes to use my holley.

Bro,

Definately not a Roller in a 150 HP LoPo. You are on the right track.

The Roller Cams are found in the HO's in the 215HP arena (Mustangs , Lincoln LSC's)...and the HO's share a firing order with the 5.8L

Word of caution with the AOD and Carbs...TV pressure is darn sensative on that tranny...and a mis-que will fry it in no time at all.

Lokar makes a nice cable system that will have to be used in place of the kick-down linkage..and thanhfully they rovide clear instructions on TV Pressure Readings to help avoid troubles.

I used the set-up until I decided to focus on pure performance with my 1988 CV Police Package. The 7200VV was a joke...and a 4BBL Replacement is not possible without going the route I menioned above.

I finally got tired of worrying about torching the AOD..and opted for a built to hell C-6. The AOD is rebuilt and sitting on a roller dolly I built for it..just in case I can find a 1991 5.0L Police Package Vic to do an actual HO Engine Swap with someday.

FYI...You can do an HO Swap by finding Mustang Heads from 1991-1993..as well as the intake and Throttle Body...the Cam and Rollers and Lifters being a given need too.

You should be able to support this car for a long time..many parts between the 1988-1991 Models share utilization other than dash parts on the 1990-91 Models with sloped dashes and Air Bags.

If it's the original engine, it's a hydraulic roller.

mav, just be careful because the 86 had flat top pistons. you cant run as much lift as you can with the later models. i think!!
