Another FordMuscle deserter...........My earliest Ford memory is the day I went with my Dad to pick up the new '55 Ford Convertible in late 1954. At the age of 4 I already liked Fords even though no one in the family had one. Dad traded a '53 Plymouth on the Ford, Uncle had a 54 Chevy, and Gramps had a 50 Olds.......... So why did a 4 year old like Fords???? Can't really say, but what is is and I don't worry about it! Anyway, I've a had bunch of Fords over the years, some very nice/very desireable, some not so nice. The current fleet is a 63 Galaxie, a 66 Fairlane, a 60 Edsel (no rude comments, please), wife's 97 Thunderbird, a 2000 SuperDuty Diesel, and a 2004 F150 Heritage. I restore old cars for a living at my home shop. Not much more, so I just thought I'd stop over and see what was up. I'll try to post a pic of the 63. See if this works.........

Yeah, that's then best I can do on that awful South Mountain track. 60 foots stink, but I though the angle was kinda cool.... You might want to keep the wise cracks to a minimum or I'll have to tell the truth and let everyone know that you really drive a Volvo........

I like em, Galaxies, Edsels, Mercurys, now those were automobiles not just a car. The Edsel & the 60 Starliner featured elsewhere reminded me of something I read somewhere that there was a supposed limit as to the width a car could be and the 1960 Ford & the 1960 Edsel were the only cars to ever actually exceed this limit. Anybody know for sure???

When Greg says he restores old cars hes being modest. We were lucky enough that every once and a while he would post pic of a restoration on FM. There was one of a Chrysler Town & Country (woody) convertible. I think around mid to late (46 or 47?)40s that was unreal. ------------------ 1961 390 Fairlane 1965 460 Galaxie 1989 Mustang GT 2003 Crown Vic Sport

Yes, both the 60 Ford and Edsel (shared bodies) were over the legal width limit of 80". Big brother said okay, but just one year only! The 61's were back witin parameters. I've been told 60 Impalas were also overwidth, but I can't say for sure.....

Well, I'll only break half of your heart.... The Edsel is a FE....63 390 with a mild warm up. It's a 396 with Edelbrock Performer Kit; Cam, Intake, and a 750 Carb. 63 427 Exhaust Manifolds into a repro 2 1/2" system. Stock convertor in the original Cruise-O (FM3/FMX, whatever....)4.11 Traction Lock. The old car doesn't run bad. On 255/70-15 BFG Radial T/As it will pull a 2.0 60 foot and go 9.40 in the 1/8 mile. The chassis is stone stock. No trick shocks, no traction bars. The 63 is a 460 based 557. Performance Automatics C-4. 4.30 31 Spline Detroit. Best 60' was 1.38 and best ET on the motor was 9.98. It went a 9.89 with a 100HP shot. Weighs 3600 lbs. [This message has been edited by BattlestarOne (edited 12-29-2004).]

That would be the one. In fact that picture was taken at that Carlisle event. The "MR" on the windshield was for "Match Race". I was match racing Travis Rice in a 65 Galaxie set up similar to mine. He has a bit more motor and will cream me in the 1/4 mile, but on that slippery 1/8 mile I can hold my own. We'll be back at Carlisle for another match race in June.

Travis' car has a full interior but it has racing buckets in front. It is a 557 with some good heads. I don't remember which ones but I know they're way better than my CJs. As on all automotive websites, especially FORD websites, only the absolute truth is spoken here!

Cool.As usual I guess you will take care of the necessary arrangements?? Only other arrangement I can think that needs taken care of is for a certain Chilly460 and a Capri that he says he has

Yeah, Woodward is still on! No doubt about it. Actually FordMuscle had nothing to do with that at all. I was just giving them a plug by displaying the banner and stuff. Last summer when I posted a pic of the "hospitality" tent with the big FordMuscle banner hanging on it they asked me not to use it and suggested we call it the Cook's Restorations Meet. Liability issues................But anyway, same time same place, as always.....

Hey Dan, even if ya dont bring the Mustang, if you make it to the Arbys someone will be there and you'll get your "Woodward Lap" in. It wouldnt have happened if it wasnt for Greg, and Coolfalcon and Billy. Like Greg said, never really was FM, it just happened because of good people that hung out on the same website. Maybe this year some of the M&M guys will stop by.------------------ Chuck 1961 390 Fairlane 1965 460 Galaxie 1989 Mustang GT 2003 Crown Vic Sport

Woodward IS what woodward is. An experience that has to be 'experienced' to believe. What (like everyone said), IS the great people that make it so cool. Now ADD all the thousands of REALLY cool cars/trucks/vehicles, and you get double your pleasure. ------------------ You can sleep in your race car, but you can't race your house!
