I know its not a Ford, but would like to know whether a price I've been quoted on a 6 passenger wagon is appropriate. If its not possible to ask about here; if anyone has the knowledge of these cars. Maybe we could discuss it outside the forum through e-mail. If its all right Steve if you don't mind let me know, if not thats cool.
Thanks,
Luke

Uhm, Luke, Edsel is a Ford both person and car.

I think it's time the Edsel quit getting it's bad rep. It may have been a marketing disaster, but from what I've heard, they really weren't the bad car everyone makes them out to be. There have certainly been worse cars(even a Ford?) built then the Edsel.

I understand that completely and totally. But I didn't believe it was a FOMOCO type vehicle.
But heres the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6 216&item=4505154075&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
I e-mailed him and he said he'd consider selling it for 3500. And I thought if I went in w/ 3000 cash. Then I might have a go at it.
Would that be a reasonable offer? Or is the vehicle worth that? I really love the styling of Edsels honestly. I don't know much about their engines though. But I thought if the car didn't need much work. Then I could park the Stang and work on it. And have another car that still would be pretty cool to have and wouldn't lose value over the years.
Any information and help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks,
Luke

Well darn, after checkin' out some Edsel.com looks like its a bit on the pricey side for what it is... Might have to let this one go...

I thought Edsels had acquired the same collector status as DeLoreans - ahead of their time, marketing disasters, problematic. Whenever I see an Edsel (which isn't often!), it sure perks me up! Much more interesting than a Belair.

Mooney, I think that if you can get that car for $3000, or even $3500., thats seems like a pretty decent deal. I realize that many people don`t like SW`s that much, but I`m not one of them. That car looks pretty decent for that kind of money. However, since there is no "Buy it now" for his listing, who knows high high it will go. When I looked tonite, there were 18 bids, up to $2100. As for the Edsel engines, that wagon has a 332 FE, the same as my 59 Meteor, which is a well proven design, on which the 352, 390, & 428 are also based. I like it! You may want to ask about this on the "Old Fords" section of M&M. Let us know how you make out.

One of the Edsel's probs was the pushbutton shifter in the center of column. Not pretty when it went bad.

That looks like a great deal so far. With 18 bids i can't imagine the seller closing the auction. If he'd take $3500 i'd go for it and let him sort out the irate bidders.

Very clean car for that money, you should try a price guide that's been updated since 1977. If the guide doesn't think it's worth that perhaps they'll find you a better one? LOL

Only the "top line" 58 Edsels had the pushbutton automatic shifter in the steering wheel. The "low line" 58 Edsels, & the 59 & 60`s had conventional column shifters. As a side note, in 58, there was an Edsel 2 dr. Station wagon model called the "Round Up". Wouldn`t one of those be cool!

Wow, didn't realize the pricing guide hadn't been updated since way back when. The guy I guess has changed his mind on selling it outside E-bay, which is probably a smooth move on his part, he's not responded to my e-mail etc. So I think hes going to sit back and roll with it. I'm going to watch it though, see what happens. Always have loved wagons. And that one, its different than any other one you'll see out there usually. But I think its going to go oughta my price range on the bidding scale.
Thanks for all the information guys!
Luke

I heard that the reason it flopped was the name and the styling...
Some thought the grill reminded them of female anatomy! there was a guy with one in Lafayette in unrestored condition, they were pretty decent cars - I liked them and a good one for 3500 I think is a bargain. Automotive history whether you love it or loath it.

Phil: I don't know about looking like a female antomy(maybe I'm slow) But it did always remind me of an old horse plow harness.

Well, he gave me his number through e-mail. So I'm going to give him a call in a bit and hopefully setup a time to look at it tomorrow during the daylight. Definately considering it. And while it would put me into a small amount of debt. My dads agreed to loan me the money which will save me on taking out a miniloan heh. I'm not sure whether his price has gone up or not though, I hope not! Not looking forward to parking Maggie though if I'm able to purchase it. But only time will tell!

Well, never could get in contact with the seller! And didn't want to purchase without looking at it. But was having issues with parking the stang and only haulting its progress since the Edsel would of taken priority! So I'm more or less happy I didn't go for it. Darn these whims!

But I'm quite surprised at the price it went for. I would of expected a bit more!

An old Joke in the Edsel demise, Kennedy era. A pregnant prostitue, driving an Edsel, with a Nixon sticker on the bumper-aka A Three Time Loser!

The girl who put headlites on her knees and went to a costume party as an Edsel.
