1990 grand marquis. the speedometer is slow about coming up. i can get up to about 65 mph and it will stick on about 40-45. i can beat on the dash and it will gradually come up to the correct speed. does the same thing when i slow down. anybody got any ideas short of pulling the speedometer out? thanks

Sounds like new cable time. In the old days you could lube them, but now they are 'permanently lubed' which means 'throw it away.'

Thank goodness this wasn't the kind of speedo problem I was afraid of...
