Hi all, this is my first time outside the 65-73 forum. My D0VE 429 from a T-Bird is arriving next week and this is going to be my ultimate engine rebuild, if it takes five years. I figure I might as well jump it up to 460, since I understand that is a straightforward conversion, but that's ALL I understand. Can you tell me what is involved? Is there a recommended 429/460 rebuild book I should buy? Thanks all, Simon

I'm no big block expert, but I guess it's just a crank swap. The bores and connecting rods are the same. ------------------

If you feel like stroking the 429 to 460, why not spring for the crank/rods/pistons kit from FRPP and punch it to 521? (4.36 +.030" bore x 4.3" stroke) It's what I'm gonna put in my Galaxie. ------------------ Laugh at your problems, everybody else does... A crank swap sounds straightforward enough, if I can find one in good shape. But a 521 stroker ... gulp! What kind of gas consumption do you hope to get?

A good question. I really don't know, but my old '65 with the 390 got 10/11. As of now I'm thinking of putting in a Richmond 5-speed (no overdrive but a really deep first gear; I'll do the "overdriving" with a Sam-type rear axle), so I think it will be liveable for a sunny day toy.Right now, it's still in the dream stages

Simon, The 429/460s share same block casting and bore. The only differences are crank (460 w/ more stroke) and piston ( 460 different pin-to-top distance or compression height). So, all you'll need to change is the crank and pistons and turn a 429 into a 460. Normally, but not always, CJ & SCJ motors are different - such as 4-bolt mains, different valve sizes, combustion chamber size, cyl head port volume/dimensions, etc. There is a web site that is dedicated to only 429/460 buildups. Check it out at: www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/85220 GOOD LUCK & KEEP US POSTED ON YOUR PROGRESS! Ryan

What I think is cool about the 460 is that I was looking up some specs the other day on a '70 429 and I noticed the '70 460 was rated as 360 hp and 500 lbs./ft. of torque! ------------------
