We all know the ease of the Granada/Monarch front disc brake swap for early Fords, but i need some rear end info. I've found a low mileage(42,000 wrecked 1976 Monarch which is the same as granada) i'm going to pull the front discs even though i;ve done this swap on my 62 F'lane but i;m looking at the 8" rear. My 62's is the wimpy weak housing and 68 & up housings are much stronger. How can i tell if this thing is a posi? wheels are off it so its sitting on the rear drums, which are finned 10" x 2.5" by the way & maybe a bolt on to my stock 8"? All i have is the vin # which is 6E37F5050908, can anyone tell from the vin if this 8" is a posi? Its the Luxury Mercury Monarch Ghia with the 302 if that helps. Or do i have to lift this baby up some how & hope the rear end tag is still in place Thanks for any help Roger in Toronto

You can't tell from the VIN unless you pay Kevin Marti to look it up for you or call Ford and wait a month or more for them to print you a sheet. You are left with either the tag, which would have a L in the gear ratio, such as 3L00 for a limited slip 3.00 for example, or jack one side and see if one side will turn with the other side fixed, which means open, or if they both have to turn, which means limited slip. {You notice I didn't say posi because this isn't a GM product.} ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip
