I just saw some pictures for a '70 XL, now that's a car! 4000 lbs of big block Dearborn muscle! Shove that up your OPEC, Abdul!

I love the blackout treatment they did on the hood and cowl, and those hideaway lights were gorgeous!

Used to live in a small town in NC years ago and bought a new '81 GRANADA from the FORD dealer there. I came in off a trip (drove a truck) and there was this big ugly yellow mid-seventies LTD sitting on the car port.

Old ladies boyfriend dawdling?

Anyways, she had to take the car in for warranty work and they gave her this thing as a loaner. I said throw me the keys, I need to ride to the store for some adult beverage.

I started the thing up and she was not loud, but something just wasn't right. Back her down the driveway, put her in drive and give it a little fuel.

This thing tries to stand up!

Run it down the two lane and get into it a bit and I am impressed (I was driving a '73 RANCHERO 351CJ at the time).

Get down to the store and pop the hood and this big bad 460 is staring me in the face. Go back to the house, pull out the FORD books and this thing has a complete police package! Drive down to the dealer and announce I want to buy it (I knew the engine was going into that RANCHERO) and the guy grins and says that's our loaner...we can't sell that...

Turns out it belonged to a NC ATF agent and he had just traded it in as they were responsible for their own cars. So never say never....

I didn't remove the air cleaner lid as I assumed it was a 4300D like my CJ (I think it was a 75 or 76).

But I will tell you another hillbilly story. Used to go junkyard looking down there quite a lot and I came across this fairly recently junked local police vehicle. I raised the hood and saw the standard 351W Police but the thing was sporting a brand new 780 HOLLEY. I slammed the hood and casually walked down the hill to the guy and asked him how much for the carb off the cruiser. He said fifteen ought to do it.

I counted it out, ran up the hill, removed the carb and headed for the gate! Guess he doesn't check all that he drags in on a regular basis...
