I was offerd the chance to buy a 63-1/2 390 car and was told that near the end of 63 production Ford couldn't sell 406 cars (insurance or something like that - nobody wanted them). So Ford put 406's in cars with 390 VIN's. This car supposedly has 406 head and intake casting #'s. I haven't seen it yet. Does this story sound familiar to anybody?

Not true. FoMoCo installed 406's into big cars through early 1964 and vin'd them as such. They had to push the 406's as the supply of 427's was short. Many dealers got 406 cars for stock when they ordered 427's. It was a "take it or get nothing deal" during the "Total Performance" years. Alex

I haven't seen it. A friend of a friend owns it now. He found it in a barn where it has been for about 15 years. He has repainted it Wimbledon white. Original color was turquise. Interior is turquise I think.

Oh, welcome to M&M!
