I bought this fairlane has a 289 4 speed in it.The 4 speed does not look like a toploader. What other types of 4speeds came in the car and are they as strong as the toploaders?

If it is a fairly early FAIRLANE (62/65), it may be a BORG-WANER T-10. Not as desirable or tough as a F/4/S, but a nice transmission.------------------ I am looking for information concerning factory performance/aftermarket speed parts (1958/1960) used on the MEL (Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln) (Also Thunderbird 59/60) Engine Series (383-410-430-462) produced from 1958 thru 1968. It would have a 9 bolt cover on the side if it is a B/W trans.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked."
