I was just wondering if '63 Fairlanes origionally came with an export brace? My car doesn't have one, and I was thinking of purchasing the one Crites makes, but I don't know if I even need one for a car used only at the drag strip; do I?. Also, would it be worth my time to make and install a monte-carlo-type bar? Thanks!

'63 Fairlane: 351W, 10.2:1, top-secret hyd. roller cam, Victor Jr. heads & intake, 800 DP carb, Super Comp headers, duraspark & 6AL, C4, 4500 stall, 4.11 gears, 26" slicks

'66 Mustang Coupe: 289, Offy intake, Crane Blazer hyd. camshaft, Holley 650 DP, Headman long tube headers, 3" cut-outs, Flowmaster 2-chambers, 3.80 gears

'70 Mach 1: 351C-2V, Weiand intake, 750 holley, Flowtech long-tube headers, MSD ignition, C6 trans, CJ converter, 9" track-loc rear, 3.50 gears, Flowmaster 2.5" mandrel exhaust w/ 3-chamber mufflers

My advice for building & buying:
1. "Never Assume!"
2. "Pay me now or pay me later."
3. "If it's too good to be true, it probably is."

The 62-65 Fairlane came with a lame version of an export brace. It was just two peices of pipe with the ends flattened. One end is bolted to the cowl and the other to one of the bolts on the shock tower that bolts the uppper shock mount on. I too am planning to build a monte-carlo bar for my 64.

Steve: I used a monte bar for a 66 mustang, I cut it at each end(bout 2" in fronm mount) & slid in a piece of solid stock about 4" long per side, fix it to the bolts in front of your shock towers & adjust it so its centered, mine has the loop aropund the distro, have it spot welded to correct width, remove it for welding & with some good body putty to fill in the seams you would never know it wasn;t factory
