Hi All,

Allen of Charlotte, N.C. here.

I have recently purchased a 68 Torino Fastback with a 2V 351C in it. Sure I know this car came with a 302 when new...and the C's weren't offered until 1970...but I have elected to keep the C and build on it.

So far I have a B&M Modified C6 Tranny being built.

I have obtained 4V Heads and a 4V Edelbrock intake.

I have also purchased "Sanderson Shorty Headers" for the 4V Cleveland..in hopes of not hurting more low end torque than I have too.

Being from Charlotte..I will be using a custom ground Roller Cam from Holman-Moody...as Larry Wallace of HM has done previous cams for my other 351W's in the past.

My car is currently not road ready..as it has timing issues along with some bent pushrods...all items are to be addressed as more and more parts arrive.

I have also elected to replace the gas tank...as signs of repairs are noted..and IMHO less than acceptable.

My 1968 Torino GT..is pretty much bare bones option wise...and the automatic column shift has been relocated to a floor shift automatic without using a center-line console.

The previous owner used an FMX to back up the 351C..but previous dealings with the FMX..and it's added weight has really turned me off..thus the C6 will be ready before the rest of the car is. (LOL)

I'm looking forward to chatting with other Torino fans...and Ford Muscle fans here.

Getting a 68/69 Torino has been a life long dream..as it was the first car I ever saw win a NASCAR race back in 1969. FYI..I was 8..and I've been hooked ever since. Yup..an older guy whom remains young at heart.

Best to all....Allen

Thanks 68F100,

I'm pretty proud of my collection. Until recently I had a second 1988 Turbo Coupe T-Bird..but it was a dog tired automatic..that I was going to swap to a manual , due to the automatics being de-tuned for having weak tranny's , yet the car was a very loaded example.

I sold the car to make room for the 68 Torino..that will take months to get it where I want it to be.

Being a 3rd shifter with a major airline , does add to the issues of time...so one local speed shop , Holman-Moody and the internet have been my major source of spare /replacement parts.

The Torino has already been expensive , and that does not include the initial purchase price....but it's all worth it to me.

I'm looking forward to mating up the best aspects of today's technology in the Cleveland (Roller Cam/Rockers) and the Sanderson Headers...yet keeping the strength items of the 351Boss and CJ's

I have already obtained a set of 4-Bolt main caps to beef up the bottom end...and the connecting rods will be shotpeened to meet or exceed the strength of the Boss 351's rods.

I will also being going for a functional Ram Air system too. The hood scoope and underhood cut-outs are already in place.

Sounds like a cool car,Allen! Welcome to the site. It's good to keep these old cars alive. I think it's a preservation of our automotive heritage.

Sounds like you are going to have one nice car when you're done with it. How are you going to set it up? Are you going to drag race it,or will you make it like a stocker or cruiser?

ML,
I'm a firm believer in preserving the past too..regardless if it's cars, airplanes or historical items.

My plans for this car are not modest..but I have no present intent to race it. I nice Blvd. Brawler..without acting it out literally will be just fine with me.

I really want the 351C to be built to it's potential..as I'm aquiring parts to make it beefy yet more reliable than a BOSS or CJ. I'm going for strength items of those engines..but it will be all about Roller technology to void endless valve adjustments.

I will be beefing up the 9" rearend with lower gearing..as the 351C is not noted for low end torque. One must compensate in that area.

Right now it's all abut buying parts..and formulating the master plans route of progression.

The car as it sits is a nice 20 footer..any closer and a few flaws shine through..along with the warts of redneck having owned it before me.

Without trying to insult others tastes..the car has been plagued with stupid things like Glass Pack Mufflers..if you can call them that?..not to mention the blacking out of certain chrome items , tha just shouldn't be done that way...as in the Ford lettering and mirrors.

The cars Rake has also been ruined with Keystone Mags that are shot and rusty..and small in the front , plus oversized in the rear. All of this will be done away with...and 15X7 Magnum 500's with era correct looking radials placed on it. The current tires are some off the wall brand with obscene looking raise white letters , that just don't fit the car at all.

Lastly , the car has been painted the loudest shade of yellow to ever damage a cornia and retna..so this will require a complete sanding , prep work and re-paint to either Black or "Richard Petty Blue" ..just like his 1969 Torino Cobra's and Talledega's that he ran that one and only year with Ford.

I can't thank you enough for making me feel welcome here..as I too have been a Moderator on another Ford Vehicle site..so I know how demanding it can be...and thankless at times.

Thanks for putting up such a great site..as it has already provided food for thought..and pointed out some things to avoid.

My expierience is with the 351W..so the C is a new beast to master..Dan's Tech page here , gave me something to think about...and confirmed a great deal of what I already assumed from other readings.

Thanks much for everything you guys are doing here.

Allen
