 | posted 01-14-2004 08:36 AM Found a 67' fairlane GT-A near my home, possibly a 390 car, has the GT-A badges on the front fenders but has a 4-speed in it. My question is in 67' did they put the police interceptor 390's in fairlane GT's? Also would a 390 car definatly have a 9"? Thanks

67 Fairlane GT would have an "S" code 335 HP 390 GT engine.
The heads are unique and have 4 bolts per exhaust port.
Cast iron 4 v intake with a Holley 4150 dual feed carb.
 GT-A stands for GT- automatic.
Yes it would most definately have a 9 inch rear end if it's the original housing. ------------------Alex Denysenko

 | posted 01-14-2004 10:48 PM does the "police interceptor" tag really carry any weight? kinda like the "marine" block or the hi-po heads. ok, the heads had spring pockets, big deal. FOF, dont buy into that labeling game, just a way to get you to pay more for stuff. 67 'lane is def. a sweet car. one of my personal favorites and pretty rare around here.

 | posted 01-14-2004 11:04 PM Up to and including 1965 the 390 PI motors were killer. 428 PI replaced it in 1966.
390 "P" code police special was 330 HP, had solid lifters, nice heads, swoopy exhaust manifolds, aluminum hi-rise intake, and a Holley carb.
What more could you ask for?

 | posted 01-15-2004 01:20 AM The 66 Failane GT/GTA all came with the 390, but in 67 the 289 was also available. The S code 390 car would have a 9" rearend, but the 289 would use the 8". What is the 5th character in the VIN tag? That will tell you what engine came stock in the car.
