hello i am new to this fourum and hope you guys can help me out you all sound very knowlegable and all i have hit is dead ends with decoding this car so hope you can help me out . what i got is a 63.5 ford fairlane sport coupe it is blue in color with a factory v 8 engine in it the guy i got it from said his son special ordered it new and then his son died in 1972 and the car sat in the trees until i got it 2 weeks ago, you all know how these stories go , but i got it after i asked to buy it for 10 years as he was not interested in selling would throw in river befor he sold so i come home and see a flat bed for salvage yard hauling it off i follow the guy to the salvage yard and buy it from him for 500.00 when 20 min ago he gave the guy 25.00 for it but here is the door tag and vin VIN: 3K47K1XXXXX BODY: 65B COLOR: E TRIM:82 DATE: 02D DSO:54 AXLE:8 TRANS:5 ANY HELP APPRECIATED

Welcome! For your VIN, 3 is '63, K is Kansas City assembly plant, 47 is a 2 door hardtop sport coupe, K is 289 4V, the rest is the unit consecutive number and they started at 100001. Your door plate reads 65B, 2 door hardtop sport coupe, color E is viking blue, trim 82 is blue, date 02D is April '62, DSO 54 is the Omaha sales district, axle 8 is 3.89 open, trans 5 is 4 speed manual. now for the hard part the engine is toast locked up froze up one head gone so i need to find parts for the drive train who would be a good source to talk to one finding 271 hp 289 parts any suggestions??????

i also have a question on the date code it is 02D which you said was april of 1962 was this thing made that early in 1962 being it is a 1963.5 fairlane ????

02D is April 2nd, 1963. This is an excellent bargain at $500 and $25 would have been ridiculously cheap. If the engine is locked up it can be freed, it's best to behead the thing and take a look at the bores before trying to turn it over and cause damage.
