OK, A good friend of mine got the shorty Hedman Headers from Summit Racing for his 64 Fairlane: Part Number HED-88400 " Vendor: Hedman Hedders Product Line: Hedman Street Hedders Material: Steel Finish: Black One of the best buys in bolt-on performance. Ford: 260-302 1962-70 Falcon, 1964-73 Mustang, 1963-73 Fairlane, shorty-style, 1 1/2 in. primary tubes, 2 1/2 in. collectors, headers THEY AREN'T EVEN CLOSE TO FITTING!!! It's a 64 Fairlane 289 steel stock heads. The headers would have to be beat 1/2 shut on both sides to even come close to fitting. Anybody got any advice on what to do now??------------------ Have a Wonderful Day CandyApple 65 Fastback 351W, Hooker Super Comps,4 Speed Versaille 9" Rear End Global West Front End [email protected]

What are you into, the shock tower? I'd call them too. If it's listed, they should fit.

You could either:1. Return those headers and spring for a set of Hooker Super Comps. They are indeed expensive, but are great headers and fit perfectly. (It's what I have on my '63) 2. You could order a shock tower clearance kit from http://www.critesrestoration.com/litening.htm for $100. You cut into the shock towers and weld plates in place, giving more clearance to the exhaust system. Judging by the way the Super Comps are bent all around to be able to fit, you would have to have either a really small tube diameter or a whole lotta bends for a shorty to fit well. But I would vote the Hookers. ------------------ Kyle Laramore 63 Fairlane: 302, Victor Jr. heads and intake, Comp 31-639-5 solid cam, Super Comp headers, MSD 6AL, locked Duraspark Distributor, 650 Holley DP carb, C4, 3000 stall converter, manual valve body, 8" rear, Strange axles, 4.11 gears 66 Mustang coupe: 289, Offy intake, Crane Blazer hyd. camshaft, Autolite 4100 carb, Headman long tube headers, 3spd tranny, 8" rear, 3.80 gears

Unbelievable. He called Hedman and they said they should fit, but if not call Summit, where you bought them!!! So he calls Summit and explains the deal, They sell him the hookers at a $70 discounted price and tell him to send back the shorties (Which he had powder coated) and they would give him a full refund. I think all his parts in the future will be through Summit ------------------ Have a Wonderful Day CandyApple 65 Fastback 351W, Hooker Super Comps,4 Speed Versaille 9" Rear End Global West Front End [email protected]

Hedman has the wackiest listings of anybody. "63-73 Fairlane"??? Thats 4 completely different engine bays, chances are they won't more than one style (i'll guess the 70-71's) The 351W into 64 is very tight, fits without cutting but the headers have to be specifically for a 62-65 Fairlane with 351W, 302 headers won't fit.

"Race at the airport?????"we dont have a 1/4 mile strip on vancouver island(nearest one is mission) so 4 years ago we convinced the regional district(which also controls the airport) to allow us to hold a 2 day drag race on a weekend in the middle of august. our fisrt race was put togeather with less that a months notice(thats when we got the okay) and we had 120+ cars and 2500 spectators. it has grown over the last few years and last year, our 3rd race, we had 240 cars(roughly spread in 3 classes)and over 8000 spectators!.a lot of the cars were semi proffessional running in the 10 sec range.the fastest car ran around 7.60 at over 200.every year we've done some improvements to the airport(keep your landlord happy!),this year we built a 700 car dirt parking lot, next year a new burnout box access.all this is done with volunteer labour! keep in mind that our town has a population of about 19,000 and is in the middle of nowhere. anyways, enough patting ourselves on the back but it does go to show you that a dedicated group of people can do some good things.oh, we are now working towards our own motorsport park with 5-7 years being our goal! ron m [This message has been edited by smblk t-bolt (edited 01-15-2004).]
