One of the coolest concept cars is the new Five Hundred. It is supposed to be a mid-size and from what I understand it will use many SUV parts.

The article seems to intimate that the CVT transmission is a new and revolutionary idea from Ford.
I beg to differ: Subaru offered a CVT in it's 'Justy' as far back as the mid 80's, and it was a pretty riliable transmission.
CVT technology was first used in autos in the 50's, so Ford may have refined it, but they certainly didn't invent it.

When I was going to high school in the early 70`s, a classmate had a Dutch built DAF car, which used the CVT. That was the first time I had heard of such a thing. I worked similar to a snowmobiles belt drive system.
