I know this is a dumb question but I have not owned a modern Ford. What trans fluid should I use in my AOD? It is a '87 trans. Also, the guys who have put them in thier cars, what did you do for the TV cable? Did you use the Lokar deal? Any suggestions? Anyone do a column shift with theirs? Thanks, Robert Loose

The factory spec is Mercon ATF.Here's a cool chart: http://www.goa-northcoastoil.com/tips/64-88fordatf.html Lokar has cables if you don't want to use the factory one. Be very careful with the adjustment of the TV cable, a bad adjustment can burn out the transmission in minutes. ------------------

Thanks.I finally broke down and ordered the Lokar cable. I was hoping to avoid it. I am usually pretty inovative but the factory cable is just too inflexable. While I was at it I broke down and bought a Quick silver floor shifter. Same thing here, the factory cable was going to be a PITA and linkage from the column to trans didn't look much better. Now I need to buy ANOTHER column. One from a floor shift car. The weather is getting warm and I want to enjoy the fruits of my winter labor, so I am getting lazy. Thanks again, B-loose

I'm thinking of putting an AOD in my Torino.. What is a good source of a good AOD? Call up B&M or TCI and order one, or build one up.. And as for building one up, what is a good doner car to get one from? It's goin behind a rather mild 351C but I do use the car for some light towing.. I Have a working AOD from an '87 3.8L T-Bird that could be built up, but I can't think it's a very good one to start with... Any suggestions would be appreciated... Thanx

JPT 517-663-0578 or [email protected] for a high quality AOD.By the way, I use type "F" fluid in all performance motivated AOD's with very good results. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Thanx Moneymaker...Type F works rather well in non performance oriented applications as well.. Also does wonders for GM 700R4's .. Haven't been brave enuff to dump it in my 4R70W.. I'll wait until it's near trade in time..

The lokar TV cable worked well for me, although the fitting that holds the cable to the tranny looks flimsy its never given me any trouble in about a years use. Adjust at the carb for firm shifts and you can control upshifts to a point, make sure at WOT there is still some slack left in the TV cable, again if in doubt adjust for firmer shifts, you can burn up an AOD pretty quick. Look to the Trans go or Baumann people for shift kits and cable adjustments. Under 250HP the tranny should stand up fine, 300hp & up you better talk to Lenco transmissions in Richmond, Ontario , Canada Good Luck

Use an 88 up trans to begin with. The Lincoln AOD has more plates and clutch paks than the lighter cars so would be a good one to base on. The 87-88 S/C coupe aod has an A overdrive servo that would be good to use. Most lighter cars have the C servo, the Lincoln has a B servo. I got the A parts to put in my AOD soon along with a shift kit. To get the scoop on all this, go to the Baumman website and read up on the tech section. It will tell you all this info and more.
