Just finished putting the 351w in my 69.5 Maverick. That was fun Now for the next step. Anyone have any ideas on headers ??? There is no way I can afford customs at this time. And I've searched for info all over. At this point I'm thinking of porting the stock manifolds however much I can and using them. Any info appreciated. Thanks, Darrel

If it's not a performance build, go ahead and use the manifolds......if you are looking for every ounce of performance you need to get some headers in there. Someone makes "off the shelf" headers for the 351W in a maverick, they just have 1.5" primaries and are somewhat restrictive. Also, you can make the Hooker #6208 headers work, you just need alot of patience/time to get them in. If you want to make your own, buy some flanges off of ebay and buy some mandrel tubing and go for it!!

If the car is going to use an Auto Tranny then the Hooker Headers should make it fine. But at the most all that may be needed is to lengthen the down tubes. FYI if you are using a standard trany! Good luck!! Mine were a bitch. The next tine I need a clutch or anything the stick is coming out! or I'm going to a cable setup.

It's not a radical build. Bored .30 over with a mild cam. And I'm happy to say it's an automatic. I'm looking for used headers for this because I would hate to shell out a bunch of money to find out something wouldn't fit. I was talking to a guy on another board that made 6901's work on his 351w. But he had to dent them and they're already 1.5 primaries. Probably better to port the stock exhaust !! I have a set of early Blackjacks 1.5 with a 4-bolt collector that I think was an early style 6901. I may just try to beat them in there for now ???

My suggestion is put them on the motor, drop it in before you do any denting you may find it not nessesary. I did not have to touch mine but after driving it I did find a small mark on the pipe that was self produced under heavy load.
