OK, I have a 77 Ford Maverick (not really mine, but its going to be)it has a 250 straight 6 and a three on the tree Ford-O-matic, power steering and a bench seat, I have plans of puting a 302 with a 3 speed manual transmission in it, now, I know a transmission for a 250 will bolt right to a small block Ford, and I know I can easily get parts from a 250, three on the tree manual, and, the question I am asking, is I know Hurts makes a kit for converting a 3 on the tree to a floor shift, but I cant find it or any other info about it?, secondly, has any one out thier done something similar to my plans above? Any help would be much apretiated

Hello Uncle Kracker.
Warm welcome to M&M. Nice to have someone else from N.B. around here. I live in the St.Quentin area, about 2 1/2 hours from you.
A guy i know even fitted a 390 in a Maverick but he had to do some serious banging to the shock towers.

Yea, I know where St. Quentin is, I been thier a few times, yea, thanks for the welcome, I knew of and heard of a few people puting big blocks in them, but a small block fits in them real nice and snug and can be done without having to even touch the shock towers, except a 351 windsor, and well with a small block you usually halve to dent the headers a little to get them to clear the steering box, but other wise its a perfect fit, you drive a stang coupe? I have always been a big fan of old Stangs (but who isnt?)well come to think of it I am a big fan of just about all Ford vehicles, well, hope to talk to you some more, thankx

If your car is an Automatic its going to cost you about 2 to 3 hundred just for the parts your going to need.

The Z-Bar is about 100 bucks,Clutch & Brake Pedals 50-100 if you can find one?,Then the EQ-Bar and other Mis.parts that will set you back anouther 50 bucks. All of this is if your lucky enough to find the parts.
I know I did it!

Oh Ya you will be able to fit the hedders in just fine if you buy Hookers! I would not recomend spending this money to put a 3 speed in it. Just Keep the C-4 or spend the money on a new Auto from Jegs for about 700 dollars and your done.
All of this is just my opinion! So follow your dream!

Well, thank you very much, I am on the hunt for the parts now, I know thier use to be lots of Mavs kicking around here and not a whole lot of people still driving them (maybe 3 or 4 that I can think of), so I am pretty sure I could just get a whole second car with all the parts I need (I hope!) thanks for the opinion, but I am going to try and put a 3speed manual in, but if I cant, I will just rebuid the C4 (probably dosnt need to be, but better safe than sorry) either way I have over a year before I can drive it any way, so lots of time to think about it and work on it, so I know I will be asking alot more questions here, well, thats all I have to say for now except thankx alot

Uncle Kracker : I have done it both ways and no matter how you do it the cost is about the same. It is by far easier to go go with the Automatic. If you go with the Auto. Call jegs There rebuilt is under 800 bucks and it will be a very good tranny for a mildly built 302. If you go with the stick The main parts you need to start out looking for are the Z-Bar for a 302 car the Inline 6 parts won't work. You will also need the ball ends to go on the frame and the motor. The pedals from a Inline 6 car will work but the EQ bar is different.Your going to need that as well.
The best part is if you buy these parts and decide to go Auto. It will be easy to sell them.

hey kracker... to the best of my knowlege, it is better to find a tranny from a v/8 car. they have a few more clutches in them. yours WILL work fine but as far as i know the ones from a 302 car will stand up longer.

Yea, I kinda thought about Jegs for that, and probably will, if I halve to, but the stick is still in the plans, OK, I will add those to the list too, yea, well, I think I will go through the junkyards a few times first and see what I find then start bying new parts, or parts from ebay

todmeg- yea, I kinda knew that, but I wasnt and am not really worried, I know friend who rebuilt his 5.0L stang and has his clutch (I think?) I could get off of him

Thankx to the both of you
