My original plan was to drop the I6, and put in a 302. I was going to pay a friend $150 for a 302 and a c4 tranny, but he didn't have a 302... but he DID have a 351W. So I'm going with that. I have a question though. Will hooker super comp headers fit without cutting the strut towers? I'd appreciate some feedback.

Hooker #6901 is what I have in mine with a Stick. I have a brand new set of hedmans that will fit an automatic if your interested. Or there going on E-Bay next week. P.S. If you have the motor out and have the ability to cut the towers do it. Its going to make your life alot better.[This message has been edited by 69maverick (edited 01-16-2004).]

we have the same hookers... changing plugs is actually easier than with stock manifolds. we also put in a floor shifter. don't think these work with column shifter. but the floor shifter was under a 100 bucks and easy to put in. ask todd... he did all the work.------------------ scott todds' dad MCCI nj state rep 1972 4door-250 c4 1970 302,c4, firehawks+ansens.

Hey Chuck I have a 302 but my Hooker source (Not a pimp )says its the same part for both. rbritt222 You only need to go back about 1 inch And stay about 1 inch about the upper arm bolts. Step it in and plate it with 3/16" or 1/4" and you will be in the winners circle.the part number on the hedmans I have is 88300 [This message has been edited by 69maverick (edited 01-19-2004).]

I was going to say... I looked on the holley website for 351W headers for a maverick, but they only list 170, 200, and 302. The 302 will fit on a 351W, correct?

Yes they will fit the only thing you will need to be concerned with is the lenth or how low they will come out and will they clear your tranny mounts and shift linkage. I think that the hight difference is very small as far as the headers will be. you will need to have your pipes custom made.

I planned on getting the pipes bent to fit in my high school auto class. I also plan to get some dressy side pipes, seeing as there is no room for exhause straight back unless I change out the gas tank. Plus you dont see too many mavs, especially with side pipes

todd was having trouble with linkage clearance issues using a mav floor shifter. again we have a 70 so the tunnel is really tight. ended up going with a b&m shifter with the cable linkage. it was a snap! you got questions... we got answers. uhhhhhh..... our pipe-tologist put our pipes out the back of our 70. he piped around everything... sending unit, tank, everything. our 70 sending unit is in the front of the tank. mufflers fit nice n neat under the back seat. if sidepipes is what you want, go for it. i imagine they are gonna be a lot noisier than out the back. keep us posted.------------------ scott todds' dad MCCI nj state rep 1972 4door-250 c4 1970 302,c4, firehawks+ansens.

Someone just posted on a different thread and said that the 88300 are to short For his 65 stang using a 351w. My son has a 351 in his 68 stang with 302 headers that work fine. So this is a crap shoot![This message has been edited by 69maverick (edited 01-20-2004).]
