Well the numbers are in! The motor is a 302 .030 over flat top pistons stock rods with 69 302 heads. They have alot of porting and under cut valves with roller rockers. I used my old holley 600 and 289 performer intake with headers and mufflers. I will be changing over to a 650 double pumper and a RPM intake with a high volumn fuel pump becouse this one ran out a little soon.

This is just motor right? Sounds like great numbers for a little lightweight Maverick

I'll bet you'll see a nice improvement with a 650. I picked up a coule MPH when I swapped from a 600 DP to a 650.

it is totally stock. i don't know what a fair price is for them. klingers would let them go real cheap but i don't want to drive out there and yank them off ...as far as the 4barrel goes... c'mon guys! i finally got a job. just got out of hvac school and i start tomorrow. the intake and carb will come. just not right away. gees... should i pinch myself now? i paid 100 for the car, drove it home. it breezed through inspection including smog. 200 more for the 302, 100 for the slotted mags and 250 for the firehawks. 650 is good for all that right? this must be a dream.

As for performance, I can tell you that my old H/MP car running a 375hp I300 six and weighing 2700# used to run 11.20's on a good day and 11.45 any time (as long as the crank was still in one piece and not too many valve springs were broken. 275-300 hp ought to be good for mid twelve's if you can get it to hook up.

Hey, ponyfinder,Lets hear a bit about your H/MP car. One of my local racing buddy`s is still running an old H/MP 70 Maverick that he started racing in 73! After NHRA killed Modified (around 1980 wasn`t it?)the car sat until the late 80`s when he started running occasionally in brackets. For the past 5 or 6 years years, he mainly runs our local stickshift class, in fact he won this past Sunday at our race at Bremerton Washington! It`s a 300 with 3 downdraft Webbers, & a ported OE cyl. head, & a 4speed. Depending on weather, it normally runs between 11.4-11.7 ET`s, but in it`s heyday, it had gone 11.0`s.It`s quite a cool little car. As for the HP numbers, I totally agree. My 85 Mustang M/Stocker made a whopping 252 HP on an engine dyno, & has gone 13.0@101 mph at just under 3100 lbs.I gotta shake my head when somebody claims 450 HP "at the wheels", yet only crank out a high 12.ET.

78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph
80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph
85 Mustang NHRA Stocker 302 5speed. soon to be under the index!
