Ever sence I was a kid I haved loved the lines of a 2 door Maverick so I always have noticed them. When I was about 21 I used to race 1/4 mile at Lebanon valley raceway (One of Sherley Muldowney's first race tracks)Anyway there were a few hot Mavericks at that time that really cought my attention! One was a car called "LORD NELSON" It was gold with red trim and lettering! The driver- owner owned a Black ford pickup with red and blue trim strips! So heres the rest of the story. I was was driving though an area that I never really go in becouse its not the best area to be in!! What do I see but this same 20+ year old pickup parked in front of an old 3 family house! It looked like it hadn't moved in years? I had to find out if the same guy owned it and if he had the car? So I turned around and went back and asked the 2 kids in front of the house if they knew who owned that truck? Did I say this was not a nice place to be in?? They said " Why you want to know Cracker" So I told them about the Maverick and they said wait right there! One of them went in the house then he came back out and said his grand father owned it and said please come in ! So I did.He was a 70+ year old black man, turns out that he was retired at this point and sold the Car but had lots of Pictures and really wanted to talk about the old days! So we did!It was kind of funny to hear a guy this age talking about burnouts, ET's,ETC.. I got to see old pics of the car at the valley all things I saw 30 years ago in person. What a blast that was. It turned out to be a very nice home in the heart of not such a very nice place! The boyz kept an eye on my truck so it would still be there when I came out and it was. BTW They apoligized for the Cracker comment when I left. So I made a new friend! and made an old racer happy to have someone to talk about for a while! I think we Both won this RACE!!
