If you are hearing a squeak in the front suspension, its probably not the ball joints, which should have provisions for grease nipples. Its more likely the upper control arm shaft bushings are dry. The bushings are at either end of the shafts, 2 per side. They normally have plugs in them, which can be replaced with grease nipples, but it`s usually quite a chore to do this, due to a lack of room to work in. This is why you see so many Falcons`Fairlanes, & Mustangs etc with holes torched into the shock towers, to access these plugs , :eek"------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed

Hey Scott he's probably right!! There is a kit made to do this for about 15-20 bucks. Autokrafters sells it! It comes with the fittings and a special tool to hold the fitting in place to tighten it up! but you need a real strange size small wrench to get the plug out! Then you won't need to cut holes in the shock towers!!

If you are lucky, you don't need the kit. On my '72 Mustang all I needed were 90 degree grease fittings. I had just enough room to screw them in. ------------------

Steve, I think that the 71-73 shock towers are a fair bit wider than the earlier cars, in that area.I remember on one of my 70 Mach 1`s that the 90 degree nipples would hit the inside of the shock towers when you tried starting them in the holes of the large nut at the end of the shaft. I remember having to grind the threaded part of the nipple to allow it to fit. Also, it seems that if you try to grease the upper bushings when they were new, the grease didn`t want to go in very easily, as the thread fit was very tight. One of the best things I did when I rebuilt the front suspension years ago, was to install the MOOG "problem solver" upper control arm bushing kit. This came with new shafts & rubber GM style bushings. No more squeaks or worries about greasing the upper bushings. Also, I had a set of Granada upper arms which came OE with rubber bushings, but I don`t know what years they were. Supposedly they are a bolt on swap.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed

Mine were a tight fit too. If I remember right, I had to wedge the zerk fitting in there pretty tight before I could get them started in the holes.------------------
