Does that $900. include a trans, preferably a toploader? If not, thats way more than I would pay. I think that a 65 would have the narrow early style 5 bolt bellhousing, if so does your 65 Comet have a 5 or 6 bolt engine in it. Also, I think a 65 would also have a weaker 25 spline tailshaft & driveshaft slip yoke.Is all this stuff out of a stock 65, & if so, is your engine a 65 model? Personally, I would go with a later T5 5speed, the 3.35 low gear really helps low end acceleration, & the overdriven 5th is great on the freeway.Unless you want to have your car all factory, I think the 5 speed is tough to beat.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed

my car has the 6 bolt engine and that price does not iclude the trans. this is a direct take off of a 65 comet so everything should fit right on------------------ 1970 mach1 351c 1965 comet 289

No tranny? Wow! That's expensive in my book! It would be a little on the high side if it included a tranny, IMHO.------------------

A decent one goes for about $500. Sundance in the Classic forum has one he's about to put on ebay. Many people prefer the 5 speeds these days, for the overdrive. ------------------

I just registered and here is my first reply. Almost all of the Falcons and comets came with B-W T-10s which is a stronger transmission than the T-5s. The T-10 use to go in the 389 pontiacs. A T-10 in a small car without slicks can take a small block engine under 400 hp. When the T-10 finally wears out it tends to jump out of gear. The toploaders with a 25 spline tail shaft are weaker then everything and should be avoided at all costs. The toploader with the 28 spline is stronger than the T-10. The Comet-Falcon tailhousing necessary for bolt in installation in 64 and 65 comet-falcon is extremely rare, it has casting numbers C4DR-.
