Why do you need another cluster? All years will fit but they went to an 85 MPH speedo and a different font in 1975 or so.

I have a couple spare clusters for parts if you need something specific......

uhhhhh charlie we need the extra speedometer cuz we are finally putting the mav on the road! i won't bore you with the details but state farm shafted us through no fault of our own. now we are paying REALLY rediculous rates for a 1 year period. welp...if i register my mav as "antique" i can get full coverage for (not lying here) 50 bucks a year. and no state inspection. except out inspection department verifies that the odometer works. now the downside. 3500 mile annual limit. how bad is that? so as i approach the 3500 miles i may be inclined to change speedometers and than reinstall the original before i take the car through inspection! kinda sneaky huh? i paid over 30,000 dollars to the insurance in the last 20 years with a stellar record so i kinda look at it as evening things out. then next year i may go back to regular registration and insurance.

I just gutted an instrument cluster and have a good 1970-1973 speedo if you want it. But it would probably be easier to take a cordless drill to the speedo cable and roll it over. It'll only take about 15 minutes of your time.

awesome charlie! so let me ask you this...i always wondered how many miles in a hour or so can you roll back a speedo? and it won't screw anything on the speedo up?
thanks

I just kept in on the dial, about 120 or so. It didn't take too long, but I think I kept getting sick of it and did it over a weekend. (Whenever I was bored I went back to spinning )

while we're on the subject, my 6 cyl 74 Comet has a screw on type speedo cable in the dash, my V8 Comet has some weird kind of connector, any idea how the hell to get that thing loose?
seems like you have to pinch the side towards the speedo and it will unlatch, but I gave up on it along time ago...
I've got one stupid internal blinker light out, has been for 4 years...
gracias.

There is a grove all the way around the shaft that comes out of the gauge. And on the cable there is a white plastic clip so to speak. Just press down on one side of the white thing(the longer part of plastic tab) and it releases a tiny ball on the other side of the clamp and you just pull it off!
if it came to you could just pull it and it would come off anyway!

74merc,

I am in the middle of a cowl repair on my '72 Grabber, and I have created a "tech article" of sorts with pictures showing how I removed my dash..I though you might like to take a look at it..
