I recently found a 428 Cougar in a wrecking yard, the motor and trans are gone, and the car was in a fire, do you think the car is worth saving as it was originally a big block car, or should I let it die?

It is definatley worth some money restored but it depends. If its an eliminator or an otherwise rare car it could be worth more than you think. You should atleast submit the vin number to the ccoa.

It is a '69, and about three cars down is a '69 428 Torino that used to a drag race car. There are 2500 cars in this yard, and most of them are from the 60's and 70's. Lots of cool stuff there and it is not open to the public, but I can have the run of the place whenever I want.

Is it an XR-7?
Are the doors still there along with the glass?

I believe one door is there, but Iwill have to check to be sure, if not, there are a dozen or so other Cougars in the yard, and I am sure that one of them has the glass and the doors.

A friend owns a 70 XR-7, 428 scj car. I see it MAYBE once a year if he takes it to the Fun Ford at Norwalk. He doesnt do much with it anymore. It is a legal IHRA stock eliminator. Anyhow, two years ago at that event, a fella who knew what he was looking at offered him $20k for the car, which would need factory paint and de-race ( making up words as I go )for a restoration.

If the body is not that bad it is definitely worth saving! I had a 69 XR-7 with a 390 once and if the body wasn?t so bad I would still have it. What are they doing with the 2500 cars?

They are selling as many off as they can, but sadly most of them will eventually be crushed.

If they are in a wrecking yard, they already will have a salvage title.
