Found this inthe Bargain News a couple weeks ago. Picked it up out of NJ. M-code, 4-speed, 3.25 trac-loc, leather, AC, PDB, PS, staggered shocks, AM/FM, etc etc.... gotta love these loaded Cougars!

Before I disinfected it...

And after the cleaning spree...

..this oughta be fun....

Good find! That looks just like the '71 I used to have. That was a good car, the engine is still in my garage.

Big difference with just a bit of spit, polish and elbow grease. What are your plans for the "CAT"?

If I'm not prying too much, what'd you give for it?

Motor has some oil presuure issues, namely..none. It goes to 10 psi after a few minutes of running. Probably had something to do with the two lifters that were sitting in the valley, and the fact that 6 pushrods were off the rockers. Car has an aftermarket cam, I suspect a Chevy guy attempted to "adjust" the lifters with the rocker arm bolts. Obviously, not a good thing.

Going to swap over all the good stuff onto a solid 71 2V shortblock I have. Then I'll do a two week bodywork marathon and get it in paint. Fresh vinyl top, new carpet and pass floor pan. Then, just drive it! It'll be my winter pike cruiser on nice days. I'll use my Suburban for the nasty stuff.

This'll be a fun diversion while my 'stang is off getting painted. Can't beat having a fun to drive car that you don't have to fret over every detail.

I hate to say, but $500....probably could have paid less, guy was totally surprised that I'd pay the asking number. Heck, the toploader and factory Hurst T-shifter alone was worth the $500.

Steve & Big D, it's a 71, 12/70 build date, fairly early car. This is the only 4-gear 71-3 Cougar I've seen in person, all the others have been autos.

Mike, the tail lights sorta work, a couple of the relays are non-functioning, but I just bought a couple sequencer boxes and relay packs off eBay. I should be able to get a good box and a set of good relays out of the whole mess. I have to pull the harnesses out and give them a good cleaning as some of the bulb recepticals are rusted.

Big D, gonna fix the oil issues and drive the hell out of it. Should be a fun ride. I had just parted a totally smacked up 73 Cougar vert that had all new AC parts, so this car will get that too. Should make a nice alternate cruiser to the Mach on those hot summer nights.

...... a little update...

Got the revamped motor back in , runs pretty good. Ditched the Autolite 4300 in favor of a 750DP. Tossed the glasspacks into the metal dumpster, installed SuperTurbos so I could hear myself think.

Interior is back in one piece, livable for now. Still will need a new carpet.

Car is now registered and driven almost daily.

Did the bodywork ont he driver's side, still have to do the passenger side and the lower blackout. Having too much fun driving it!

I found it in Palisades Park, just a thankfully short trip from my town. I see an awful lot of cars for sale in NJ. Just don't have the time to check them all out. Our wonderful DOT can make a 1.5hr trip take 5hrs. I love sitting in traffic as I watch them lean on their shovels...

Nice work, looking good some reason I think you should wear bell bottoms and have Boston's 8-track blasting away.

Scoop, you're right. It's very unassuming looking. Need some dingle-balls too!

I had a 72 T-bird that a friends sister nicknamed the "Fly Blue Hooptie". Car was a blast. Triple blue, leather, power everything. Was a total pimp-ride. Always wanted to get a smoke machine and blue neon for the interior.

I had the perfect CD too, "Pornosonic", was all the bad jazz and music from the 70's skin flicks. You should have seen the looks we got with that cranking!
