I recently was given a picture of a 1967 Cougar. It was drag raced in California and sponsored by O'Connor Lincoln Mercury in LA. 3737 Crenshaw Blvd. I'ts a 302 ( says so on the tear drop hood ) Driven by Darrell Droke and Leon Wright. It say powered by Gurney Earle on the front fender. In large letters on the door it says O'Connors Top Cat Cougar. Anybody remember this car? Oh yeah it also says Darrell and Larrys Autodynamics on the roof pillar. I know darrell droke drove for Ford in the 60's but wanted to know if anybody knows the car or what happened to it....Geoff

Wow I would love to see that car. Any chance you can scan the article. If not I would love a copy of it. Darrell Droke who owned Autodynamics in California put that car together with his brother Larry. I only have the pic and really would like the article. Please E me back. Thanks...Geoff

I'll try to dig up that article for you Geoff, but I'll have to take it somewhere to get it scanned.Speaking of old Cougar drag cars, did you know they found the Cougar that the"Border Bandits" used to run?428cj car, from Chatham Ontario (about a 1/2 hr drive from here). They got famous with cjMustangs, but they ran a Cougar, too.

I used to own that car! Maybe.... The one I had was one of the Fiberglas Trends bodied flip top, Loghee Stamping, square tube chassis funny cars. I was planning on installing a port fuel injected 289 and running it on nitro. I know most of it's history from 1970 to about 1985 or so when I lost track of it. Last time I saw the car it was a 406 FE powered bracket car and residing in the Freeport IL area. It was painted a hideous shade of purple and gold. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 First SS/MA in the TENS!
