Just finished restoration of my 68 Cougar XR7G. Wiring harness was damaged by a previous engine bay fire, it was restored as best as possible, Now it is back in car the plugs to the factory Tach don't seem to be there. Anyone out there know the color code from the tach to the engine, as the shop manuel does not show XR7 schematics? Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't have any '68 wiring schematics, but I'll put this post in the Cougar forum too, in case someone there can help you.

i copied and pasted your question and emailed it to my dad... we have six 67&68 cats that he keeps running.

here is the response i just received:

"The 67-68 Cougar tach is in series with the ignition circuit (not a typical parallel to ingnition as in most after market tachs) and requires no additional thru the wall wiring. The tach wiring is part of the instrument cluster factory wiring. Check the solder connections on the tach itself. Re-soldering the connections usually takes care of the problem."

keep us posted!
