What are some symptoms of a bad T-stat? Went to Phoenix this weekend, coolant temp was good (90's outside, A/C was on), on the drive back home (360 miles) the car started running very very warm (very high side of NORMAL on factory gauge), checked water, it was ok, car ran hot until i got it to about 75-80 MPH and had heater on high (still ran a little warmer than normal). Could this be the T-stat? Car had a full coolant service done about 9 mos ago (belt, hoses, cap, T-stat). Can I install a 180 with no problems? I dunno....I'm not convinced you really had a problem. Was it outside of the normal hash marks, or just toward the upper end? Given that it was 90+, the upper end wouldn't be unexpected. I'm assuming you didn't actually blow steam?Thermostats can stick open or closed. If they stick closed, you'll almost always overheat. If they stick open, your car will take forever to warm up (if it ever does). I'm not saying you don't have an issue, but I'm not quick to jump on the replacement bandwagon. DId you doublecheck your fan to ensure it's working? The fact that you increased your speed to alleviate the problem smells somewhat like an airflow problem. Just guessing....

It's not the therm, it's the fan. It was way too hot. Had I stopped at a stoplight it would have steamed over for sure. I had jsut been driving the car in 95 degree weather w/ A/C on in Phoenix not even 12 hours earlier and it was nice and cool. But anyway, the fan is dead, so no air is pulled in at lower speeds. In fact, about 20 minutes of drive time in 80 degree weather is all the car can take. I am going to test the module that controls the fan and the motor. ------------------ Gary M '70 Mustang 63b SportsRoof '95 Mustang GT coupe and 5 more classic Fords
