Can someone shed some light on the cracked intake issue for me. My sons 1999 Mustang GT has a cracked intake, and after going to the local dealership, they infomed me the recall had expired by 5 weeks. Am I SOL, or can I fight this? The parts department told me a new manifold is $760. Summit sells a Ford performance manifold for $189, but says it requires Performance improved heads (?). Any Advice?

The recall's expired? That sucks...I thought it was a general TSB and should apply to them indefinitely (?). I'm sure the resident Ford techs can shed more light on that.As for the Performance Improved heads, I think it's just referencing the '99-'04 4.6L engines. The '96-'98s also had 4.6L engines, but the heads were a different design. ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '03 Mustang GT coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good"

Ok, here's the deal. Ford had a class action lawsuit filed against them in California, and it was settled in December. Ford was all ready to start handing out money and even issued a "NEW" recall.....BUT.....some a$$wipe didn't agree with the terms, and filed an appeal. So, now, from what I understand, Ford pulled the recall until the appeal has been completed. See this write up regarding the lawsuit: http://www.flamingfords.info/manifoldSettlement.html P.S. In the meantime, if you'd like any help on the intake, I can price one out for you and let you know. I'm pretty sure my price on the intake is close to half of what the retail price is (which pisses me off). I also believe there is an aftermarket company that's building them as well, although I'm not sure what Ford's policy is on using an aftermarket. I don't remember what the recall stated before they pulled it. Let me know if I can help you out.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me on this. The local dealership quoted me prices on two intakes. $760 for the same exact intake I have, $300 and something for one that has some kind of aluminum crossover. If you could get me the right one at a decent price that would be great! Bruce

Sorry, I thought the price would be substantially better. My cost on the plastic intake is $550 plus tax and whatever shipping would be. If you call enough Ford dealers out there and play each others cost against the other, I'd bet you could get your cost down pretty close to my cost. I'm thinking is you went with me, by the time you paid tax and shipping, it would be over $600. Call around and see if you can do better. Or, better yet, tell a couple of them that you've got an "buddy" who can get you one for $550, then see how close they can get. Good luck and let me know if you're interested! ------------------ Sub Stanger/Oxford White 2003 Mach 1. I do get a little discount on anything out of the FRPP catalog, but it wouldn't do you any good as the savings would be eaten up by shipping to you. Got something in mind? I could check on it and let you know.

What's the deal on the $300 Ford manifold with the aluminum crossover? And the $189 manifold at Summit? BTW, how do you like your '03 Mach 1? I have a Azure Blue 2003.

Do they have a 4v option for the Mach 1, or should I say, the 4v 4.6 engine?

Um, if you're thinking the "v" in 4v denotes the number of valves instead of BBL's, that would be a yes! The Mach 1 engine has 32 valves, 4 for each cylinder.....hence.....4V!!------------------ Sub Stanger/Oxford White 2003 Mach 1. I sent an e-mail to the vendor last night, and they replied this morning. They said the intake should be available in early April. ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '03 Mustang GT coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good"
