I've got an '02 GT and have an annoying rattle that comes from the release button on my emergency brake handle. It doesnt happen all of the time, just usually in 4th gear at about 45+ mph. It is very noticiable at 60+, and very annoying.

If anyone has heard of this and has fixed it, please let me know.. I've tried stuffing a piece of paper in the gap between the button and the handle but since I use the brake all the time, that's not an ideal fix.

thanks and Merry Christmas.

I've not been browsing the forum much lately but I'm suprised that no-one has replied yet. I find it hard to believe that this problem is unique to my car but maybe I'm wrong. I still havent figured out a permanent fix for the problem.
I just wanted to update that "rattle" is too strong of a word. I think that buzz is probably more applicable. When I gently put my finger on the button, the buzz stops. I guess I'll post an update if I figure this one out. Perhaps the solution is a new handle.. maybe a billet one. I dunno.

I've got an 02 GT and have not had this happen to mine. I figured if anything was wrong, it would show itself in 71,000 miles!

Good point. Mine must be an anomaly. I think if I swap out the emergency brake handle for something a little cooler than stock, that may solve the problem. This car only has a little over 26k on it. So far, it's been a joy to have. .

thanks for the feedback!

This is rather interesting. I saw this post when it was originally posted, and just yesterday did I realize where that annoying rattle was coming from!! To me, it always sounded like it was coming from behind the HVAC tower, or figured it might be my shifter (I have a Tri-Ax shifter, and there's a washer that fits on the shifter handle...figured that was the rattling)...but when it started doing it yesterday, I put my hand on the e-brake handle and guess what? Yup, the rattling stopped.

A bit peculiar, yes. Dunno what to do to stop it though...

Damn! Must be power of suggestion, because my '95 does that same thing. Like Frank, I always thought it was the HVAC, but turns out it's that stupid little buttom vibrating (just found out today as I was getting on the freeway). I'll have to try the paper lodging thing, since i don't use the parking brake it's not too big of an inconvience.
