Stereo Question

Hey Guys & Gals,

Ive searched the forum but cant find any related info.

I have a weird issue with my 1996 GT factory Mach460 stereo BUTTON.
The VOLUME DOWN BUTTON does not work anymore. The up still works.

Can't afford to upgrade so I hope there is a fix. Does the button even come off?
I was thinking about using canned air (is it too strong for the electronics?)

Later,
DB

It's always worth a shot. Odds are you're screwed. You'll be upgrading. Watch e-bay and you could probably snag a stock unit for next to nothing. Electronics are so complicated and difficult to fix these days, it's easier to just pick up a replacement. You probably have a broken solder joint in there somewhere, but getting to it would be a joke.

I'm not sure if the button comes off....

hey gtrocks,

thanks for info. yeah they're certainly getting more complicated.

how much have you seen just the radio/tape deck go for?

Did they even come without the tape deck (i don't use it) with the separate CD player (i know some other fords had a radio cd as 1 unit)

MPS has them listed for $100 on their website. You should be able to find them cheaper than that on ebay I would think. If you are interested, www.stangparts.com

I'd definately go with replacing it. I had a stereo in a Cougar I owned that the volume control would freak out and sen dthe thing to full volume for no reason. For what it cost to repair it, I could have bought a new stereo. The second time it happened, I just went out and bought a Pioneer.

I bought a replacement sterio for my 97 E-350 for about $20 including shipping on ebay. Granted it wasn't a Mach 460 system, but still, they are certainly available for a decent price, and cheaper than the cost or time it would take to fix yours.

Hey Everybody,

Just wanted to give you an update. I took the face plate off, cleaned it up using canned air and made sure everything was pressed in properly. Put everything together and its good. Too bad the Florida sun whooped my butt (no garage) when I worked on it but its all good.

Thanks for everybodys suggestions.
