I was doing a burnout yesterday, and hit about 6500 rpm, my car now sputters when I get on the gas, instead of taking off like it used to. Engine is fine at idle and while driving normally, just when I need to get on the throttle it feels like it wants to cut off, kind of like lack of fuel. If anyone has any info for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Jake

If your car exhibits the concern any time you want it to, my advice is to take it into a shop and let them hook up their diag equipment to find out what exactly your losing. With the info you're providing, we'd be just guessing on what the problem could be and you'd be better off spending that $70 or so on a good diagnosis rather than swapping part. Based on your description, your problem could be fuel related, ignition related, or base engine related. Too many things there to guess on. Good luck.

That is true, I bought a fuel filter, then I was told to hook up to the fuel rail and see if I have 20 psi flowing through them, if not I would need a new fuel pump, then it could be my injectors, or plugs, or wires, and so on, so I think I will just take it for the diagnosis check. thanks

Is a diagnostics check going to tell you anything if there's no codes being thrown?Mine's doing the same thing...I think. I notice it particularly when I'm doing 50 or so in 5th and then gun it. It's like there's a hesitation in there. I took the MAF apart and cleaned it and found a loose connection up near the throttle body. I tightened it up, and it's better. Not gone, but better.

YES...because he stated that the car is CURRENTLY acting up. If we aren't able to duplicate his problem, and there is no code, THEN we have a problem. Half the battle for a driveability tech is being able to duplicate the customers concern. When the concern is there, it's usually gravy after that.We hook up our diag tester called the WDS (worldwide diagnostic system) which is handheld, sort of like a laptop except it has a menu driven touch screen which is capable of performing several tests.... ignition/coil stress test, fuel pressure/injector flow test, power balance test, relative compression test, and monitoring of PID data, etc etc. If he's got a misfire/"sputtering concern", or low fuel pressure, or a cylinder that's down on compression, but no code yet, we can pinpoint which cylinder is the culprit and then continue with the next tests to figure out why it's misfiring, or sputtering.

OK guys, I am going to take it in tomorrow for the diagnostic test, I haven't driven it since this started as I do not know if I am going to hurt it more. I really want this fixed, I just bought it last month. mine sputters when I get on it in any gear, mainly when I need to get on it and go is when it happens

Let us know what they find out. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but internet diagnostics is really tough, especially when you're working WITHOUT a DTC. Since your car is acting up right now, they should be successful in figuring out what is wrong. The toughest part for you will be to decide who you want to fix the car....whether you do it yourself, have them do it, or take it somewhere else. Let's not put the cart in front of the donkey. Find out what the problem is first, and go from there. Good luck!------------------ Sub Stanger/Oxford White 2003 Mach 1.
