My sis in law is going to be selling her '94 GT coupe, and they are giving me first chance, as soon as they decide what price they want for it. It's in pretty good condition, well optioned (leather int, Mach sound system, etc). It has 110k miles on it, rebuilt auto trans. My question is on average how long of a life do the 5.0's in the '94-'95 have? The car is very well maintained, and has been her daily driver since new. Anything in particular to look for on these GT's as far as problems? TIA

The life to expect from the motor all depends on how it has been driven. If she hasn't abused the car, 110k is just broken in. If it has been driven hard, it could be getting kind of high milage. If you are concerned about the engine, run a compression test on it and check the oil consumption over 3k miles. Other than that, I would look at the torque boxes for signs of cracks (that will tell if it has been really abused).

The only real problem that I have heard widespread reports of on the 94/95 5.0s is pinging at high loads. It seems to be a common problem on most cars by this point. Typically replacing a faulty sensor will clear that up (usually IAT, ECT, or cleaning the MAF).

Hopefully that helps some. Maybe others will chime in.

Scott

The car has not been abused, she is the original owner, and is not a lead foot. It is kept in good mechanical condition (he father babies his cars), so it would seem that the engine should still have some good time left in it then. They make sure to keep up it's maintaince, fixng things as soon as they happen. My brother said they will be having the injectors cleaned before they sell it.

It's common to run across them with 160-180k on them. 200k is not unheard of. I think you still have quite a bit of life in that one!
