My 97 V6, daily driver, has developed a nasty rattle in it. Every time you hit a sharp bump (ie railroad tracks, pavement transitions, etc) it has a loud metallic rattle. I started trying to diagnose it today, and found that if you strike the top of the front wheel hard, you can reproduce the rattle. After discovering that I was able to narrow it down to being in the area of the bellhousing (5-speed). Does anyone know anything that can become so loose inside the bellhousing (or the rear of the engine/front of the transmission) that could cause something like that? Any information would be greatly appreciate as this has been driving me crazy for quite some time. Thanks.Scott

Not specifically, no. This doesn't sound like it is coming from that area though. I will try to get under there tomorrow and check those to make sure, but I have a suspision that it is something inside the bellhousing (clutch related) that has broken. Especially since the car now makes a funny noise everytime you start it. Thanks for the tip. Will definately check there tomorrow.Scott
