I have a T-45 transmission (don't laugh) that I am putting in a project. However I have one problem. The speedometer sender. I have several in my stash of parts one with a gear drive and one with a magentic pick up.Both have electric output. My guages are electric (Universal Guages) so I am only using an electronic signal but which one?

It depends on what year car the transmission came out of. If it was a pre 98, it will accept the gear type sending unit. If it is 98 or later, it will take the magnetic type. I think the break point between the two types was 98. Either way, you will probably have to look in the hole the sending unit goes in and see if it has a plastic gear on the output shaft or a metal ring with teeth on it. Good luck.Scott

Scott thanks for the info. Its not what I wanted to hear though. The tranny is in the car and it will be hard to look into the speedo drive hole. It will probably be easier too try fitting the gear unit in place. I should be able to feel the gears mesh if they are in there.
