I went out to the garage today and grabbed the wife's keys to the Saleen just because hers were laying on the counter and it was easier than going to get mine (or so I thought). I went out and clicked the trunk unlock button on the FOB. It sounded like it clicked, but it was faint. I went and grabbed the trunk, but it was still locked. I clicked a couple more times and no response. So I clicked unlock...no response. Her FOB just flat wasn't working. So I grabbed mine and came back out and it isn't working either Theft system apparently kicked in, and I can't even get the power door locks to work. It's in complete lock-down and won't even start. These are the original keys too. There is a procedure in the owner's manual to reset them. I'll work through that tomorrow.... Man I hope that works! Anyone else have this issue? I don't have a clue why it would have kicked in?!??!

Ford mechanic here: Is the THEFT light on the dash flashing fast? If it is, you're screwed and you're gonna have to have it towed to the dealership. Mustangs are notorious for the PATS key transponders going bad. Basically the transponder (it's a ring around the ignition tumbler wired to a module) reads the antitheft chip in the key and sends that info to the PCM telling it that the key is correct and to allow the car to start. If the wrong key is put in or there's something wrong with that module, you get the rapidly flashing THEFT light and the vehicle is disabled. I can't remember off the top of my head what the DTC is, but I've personally replaced 4 or 5 this year on Mustangs. Multiply that times the thousands of Ford mechanics out there, and you can see that they go bad alot. Don't know why the Mustangs seem to go bad because I believe they're all the same, but that's what's going on. Good luck and let me know what you end up doing.

It is flashing, but I wouldn't say it's flashing fast. Maybe once every 1.5 seconds or so. I haven't had a chance to try the procedure in the manual. The manual seemed to indicate that if you put the proper key in the ignition, it would override the anti-theft. I definitely did that, and got nowhere. Should be fun towing a car out of a garage (parked head first). Sigh....Just what I need at Christmas time!

I just tried to reprogram the keys with no joy. Weird thing is that NOTHING works. I can't even hit the lock/unlock button on the door and get that to work. Accessories in the 12V outlet don't work either. Does it really shut that stuff down too? I'm wondering if the battery is just flat dead. I can't imagine one going that fast tho with no symptoms (it was starting strong previously). I need to put a voltmeter on the battery, I guess. Sigh....

Did you try the lights? The PATS system does not shut down anything other than the ability to start the engine. The fact that your "THEFT" light is illuminating normally (not rapidly flashing) says that you don't have a PATS issue. Since nothing works, I think you're on the right track with the battery. Hate to see you waste a tow on a bad battery. Good luck!! ------------------ Sub Stanger/Oxford White 2003 Mach 1...and a guy who LOVES his wife and kids! I think we found the culprit. It's reading 4.38V at the terminal. I bet I left the XM radio on. I haven't driven it in about a week, so if that's what I did, the symptom would be consistent with that. I just didn't think it would kill it that badly. The door locks wouldn't even work! Anyway, the charger is on her now, so we'll see.... Thanks for all the help, I'll report back soon!
