i have 96 mustang that had a 75 amp alternator in it...i just replaced that with a brand new 175 amp alternator...a 100 watts MORE power...replaced the positive 4/6 ga to all 4 ga. and i didnt touch the neg side because it was 4 ga. and appeared to be in excellent condition...so now when im listening to my system i can still see my lights dimmin?!?! i didnt replace the battery but i am thinking it could be the culprit of all of this...can a battery just go dead and not take a charge anymore?? because i am having to jump start my car every time just like be4 with the old alternator...even if i disconnect the power cable to the stereo....still gotta jump....would this be my battery or something else restricting flow?

Well, your 96 originally had a 130 Amp alternator on it. The new alternator will do little to no extra good with the engine at idle. Out of curiousity, where did you get a 175 amp alternator from? So far, I have only seen 130, 160 and 200 amp versions.
Yes, your battery can die to the point that it won't hold a charge anymore. Go to a local auto parts store and have them check the battery to see if it is still good or not. If the battery is good, you could have something in the car that is running the battery down (like a trunk light). Hope that helps.

yea i found this alternator at www.4alterstar.com and supposedly it was supposed to has a beefier idle output...im almost sure its my battery though...one more point i should note...i busted the dinger inside my door casing and all so when i rode around i heard ding ding ding all day long so i removed the paneling, inscrewed my speaker, and disconnected the whole door open/close detector from the wires(plugged right in) and the dinging stopped....BUT i removed the master dome bulb could this dinger be telling my car the door is open and trying to light my dome light? thats about the only place i could think of power loss...back to the alternator u dont think this new alternator puts out more than the old stock one?? pls take a look at the specs on www.4alterstart.com and its the 175 amp alternator for 96 mustang ....nothing is for sure though until i change this hunk-o-junk battery

They say it can output around 80 amps at idle. The stock one in worst case will output around 60 amps at idle. That 60 is the minimum acceptable to be considered good by a tech. So yes, it does output a little more, how much more I'm not really sure. I'm not sure what to tell you on the door chime. Try fixing the chime and then see if it helps.
