Iwant to put exhaust on my cobra. But i really want to have it come out from the sideskirts. Is that exhaust gonna make me lose performance or not? If it doesnt how much horsepower should i gain on my car from a full exhaust with headers and without?

If you get a quality kit, or a quality job done so that the exhaust pipe is not kinked and can flow freely than side exhaust would not hinder performance at all, might actually free up a little power. As far as how much a full exhaust would give you its tough to say. You can't just slap a number on what it will give you. I can tell you that if you get headers don't waste your time with anything but long tubes. You will notice a decent difference in power with them. However be aware that installing headers on a mod motor is no picnic and most likely requires lifting the engine, and sometimes removing the transmission. Thanks! Well I can do all the work myself for the exhaust so im not worried but i was just wondering if performance was good. But do u think borla is a good side exhaust because at mustangs unlimited they only have that side skirt exhaust?

Borla sells very high quality exhaust components, they would be an excellent option for this setup. As for the Mach vs. a 98 cobra the Mach 1 would definitely prevail with equal drivers. Things have changed in these 4.6 DOHC engines in 5 years, and for the better as the mach 32 valver makes more power also with more low end torque than our 98's. Machs are capable of consistent low 13s stock, and some have even gone into the tweleves with only minor mods. 96-98 cobras are only good for mid to high 13s stock (with good driving). You can credit alot of this to the superior lowend torque of the Mach 1 off the line, however on the top end these cars are probably pretty close with the Mach still edging out the Cobra. Of course this is all just bench racing, it all depends on how the cars are driven. Paul ------------------ 1970 Grande H code 351W FMX 1998 SVT Mustang Cobra Bright Atlantic Blue

Another kit to consider (just consider) is the Roush kit. Last I heard, they use Magnaflow mufflers for their side-exit setups. The only problem with going to Roush is that you're gonna pay for the name "Roush."------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '03 Mustang GT coupe '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good"

Yes indeed, roush is high quality stuff but man is it expensive. I was watching horsepower TV and they put roush brakes on Joe's Mustang GT. Looked real good and stopped him in a hurry. Then they told us the cost.... over $3000 for the kit they got. That is ridiculous and for the money you can get just as good if not a better product and end up saving money. I don't know about the Roush exhaust though, might be a viable option. If I were doing this though I would call up some local exhaust shops and see if they could fab up a quality system for you. Yea well i think roush is to expensive, plus i dont like to buy things that come from other mustangs. For example Cobra R rims i dont have a Cobra R I have and SVT so i like to stick to my origin. Thats just how i am. Im going to lower my car is it a good idea to do the rest of the suspension or should i just leave it like most other cobra owners do?

Roush and Borla are both $$$. However, you should consider that they both deliver a top quality product. I looked around at all the local exhaust shops when doing the system for my 68 coupe and finally bought a complete Flowmaster American Thunder system. I made that choice based on the price and quality of the exhaust shops I checked in to. No mandrel bent tubes, no H-pipe, and shorter or non-existent warranties. The cheapest quotes I got were MORE than the Flowmaster system, although I still had to install it and tie it to the headers. I am very happy with the finished product. Ultimately the choice is yours, but you can spend the money once and be happy or try to shortcut and be dissappointed and then spend it again to get good results.my $.02 Dave Dave ------------------ Dave 68 Coupe, 289, restomod in process 68 GT Fastback, resto in process 97 Cobra .vert, daily driver
