...........mine made 274.4HP and 303.4TQ. Ricks made 280HP and 308TQ. I told him it was because he had 500 miles more on his than I did I know I am only 2 or 3 mods away from 300RWHP, but that will have to wait for the new to get worn off. I did try one run w/o the air filter and only gained 1HP. Not worth the bother. On a side note - my son's stock '02 Z28 made 300rwhp and 332lb/ft tq. They were seriously underrated too. ------------------ The '65 coupe is gone, long live the Mach 1. Over 55 and still have a need for speed. Mach 1 stock dyno numbers - 274HP and 303TQ [This message has been edited by 65_302 (edited 11-30-2003).]

those are some nice numbers just wondering how does your Mach 1 compare your son's Z28? Does it feel just as fast? is the interior nicer? which handles better?etc.

I think with drivers of eqaul ability the Z28 wins in the 1/4 mile, by .1 or so. The Mach 1 will win out of the hole but the Z28 will catch up and win by a nose. While the Mach 1 has a strong 3rd gear the Camaro has more hp and weighs the same. Both will have relative slow 60s (unless Evan Smith is driving). I think he got very similar numbers out of both cars with the Camaro winning. Not sure of that. Now that would be an interesting test. See if you can find what he did in the Camaro. I think I can find his Mach 1 numbers. The Mach 1s interior is better imo and is easier to get into and out of. That is a big factor when you are >55 and fat like me. The handling in the curves goes to the Camaro, very slightly. It's got a lower stance and just seems to squat and hug better when you hit the curves at high speeds, but there again the difference is minor. In a auto cross race I think the Mach 1 would win because of the higher reving DOHC engine. You could keep the rpms up easier when coming out of the corners going into the straight aways. All in all, I will keep the Mach 1 and hope I run against drivers I can beat with superior shifting. BTW, I don't think either one has a stock rear end that will hold up to serious drag racing. Seen several guys complain about broken axles on the Machs already. And we know how weak the Camaro's stock rear end is. Both are fun, but the shaker hood and wow factor of the Mach 1 turns heads on the street. It's a keeper.

In March Evan Smith went 13.13 with a 2.07 60. The Mach1registry.com board has members reporting 12.90s and one or 2 high 12.80s. I will make a pass or 2 with mine, next spring.

Great numbers for your new Mach1. I'd get those few mods done and not tell the son. Thats what my good friend has an 02 Z28 darn fast car. His is has a cold air system, a chip, complete exhaust system including cats, Auto, and highway gears. He's pushing high 12's. He's the main reason for me building my 351w this year. I can't let a newer Z28 with A/C blow me away. And you can't either. ------------------

Thanks Ron. I will get some mods after its broken in, which is between 3K - 5K. Some say theirs were fully broken in by 3K while others say 5K. I just have 2.2K now so I have a ways to go.
My son is more into crotch rockets now. More thrill and the power to weight ratio is out of the world for 1/4th the cost. More danger too, but what ya gona do? Once I get back to normal I will build my Fox body and then get me another '65 coupe sleeper for the street. Both will sport either 393s or 408s. The coupe will probably have an auto because my wife really wants one that she can easily handle. Not that she can't drive a stick, because she can. I share the Mach 1 with her and she has driven the Camaro. But she just does not treat them like they were meant to be treated. I named the Mach 1 Black Bart. OK, or too common? l8r

You will like them. I know I hate down time, like when I am working, sleeping or doing honey dos. I need a sign to hang around my neck when I am out of ole Black Bart. One that says............. I WOULD RATHER BE DRIVING MACH 1.
